Brooklyn Navy Yard Building No. 92

Redevelopment of High-Voltage Systems

Performed comprehensive electrical infrastructure installation and systems integration for the redevelopment of Brooklyn Navy Yard Building No. 92, including high-voltage electrical distribution systems, switchboards, panelboards, lighting systems, lighting controls, fire alarm systems, telecommunications infrastructure, structured cabling pathways, grounding and bonding systems, AV infrastructure, security systems, electrical power monitoring systems, and associated conduit and wiring installations. Scope also included support for photovoltaic systems, LEED-compliant electrical components, temporary power systems, underground utility coordination, testing and commissioning, and integration within a complex historic adaptive reuse and redevelopment environment.

Understanding the Site and Challenges

Kanta Electric performed major electrical infrastructure and systems integration services for the redevelopment of Brooklyn Navy Yard Building No. 92, a landmark historic restoration and adaptive reuse project within one of New York City’s most prominent industrial redevelopment campuses.

The project involved installation of high-voltage electrical distribution systems, switchboards, panelboards, advanced lighting and lighting control systems, fire alarm infrastructure, telecommunications systems, structured cabling pathways, AV systems, security systems, and associated power distribution infrastructure supporting the transformation of the historic facility into a modern commercial, exhibition, and industrial-use environment.

Kanta’s scope also included integration of photovoltaic system infrastructure, LEED-focused electrical components, power monitoring systems, temporary power systems, underground utility coordination, and complex multi-system electrical coordination within an active redevelopment and historic preservation setting.

The redevelopment of Building No. 92 became a widely recognized example of sustainable adaptive reuse within the Brooklyn Navy Yard campus, combining historic preservation with modern infrastructure, energy-efficient building systems, and advanced environmental design initiatives.

Executed within a technically demanding urban redevelopment environment, the project required extensive coordination across multiple trades, phased construction sequencing, and integration of critical electrical infrastructure systems supporting long-term operational flexibility, sustainability objectives, and modern tenant functionality.

This project highlights Kanta Electric’s experience delivering complex electrical infrastructure solutions across historic restoration, institutional redevelopment, sustainable building modernization, and large-scale adaptive reuse projects throughout New York City.
