Understanding the Site & the Challenges
Kanta Electric performed major electrical infrastructure installation services for the Bronx Mental Health Redevelopment – Buildings 37 & 39 for DASNY/OMH in partnership with J. Kokolakis Contracting, supporting the redevelopment of the New York City Children’s Center Bronx Campus and Central Services Building.
The project formed part of New York State’s broader Bronx Behavioral Health Campus redevelopment, a major modernization initiative that created a new 436,310-square-foot behavioral health campus with facilities for the Bronx Psychiatric Center, the New York City Children’s Center Bronx Campus, and residential behavioral health programs.
Kanta’s scope included installation of medium-voltage service infrastructure, switchgear, panelboards, transformers, lighting systems, lighting controls, generator and automatic transfer switch systems, grounding systems, power distribution, conduit and wire installations, and raceway and cable tray infrastructure supporting fire alarm, telecommunications, intercom, PA, AV, and security systems.
Providing Innovative, Site-Specific Solutions
A distinctive aspect of the project was its role within a secure behavioral health and children’s psychiatric care environment, where electrical infrastructure had to support not only building operations, but also patient safety, staff security, emergency preparedness, and uninterrupted institutional functionality.
The campus was recognized as a significant healthcare redevelopment project, with the overall program receiving industry attention for its modern behavioral health design and sustainable construction approach, including LEED Silver certification.
This project highlights Kanta Electric’s experience delivering mission-critical healthcare and behavioral health electrical infrastructure within highly sensitive public-sector environments requiring secure operations, life-safety coordination, emergency power reliability, and advanced institutional systems integration.
